Two In Custody Following Standoff With Police In Northwest DC (Developing)

Two people were taken into custody in Northwest DC following a standoff with members of the Metropolitan Police Department that led to several roads being closed in the area.

The incident began shortly after 8 a.m. on Thursday morning when an officer was flagged down regarding a possible armed robbery in the area of 8th Street and Florida Avenue NW that ended with two people running inside a building in the 2000 block of Georgia Avenue and barricading themselves inside.

Members of the department's Emergency Response Team were able to breach building near Howard University - which was not in use at the time - and two people were apprehended, police say.

During the barricade, several roads were closed in the area. 

The incident remains under investigation.
